Civil Rights and Social Impact
In 2023, we advocated for free and fair elections, challenged unconstitutional laws banning essential abortion care and gender-affirming medical care for transgender youth, and championed the rights of children and teens. Thanks to partnerships with legal services and civil rights organizations across the country, we advanced civil rights for all.

LGBTQ+ Rights
We have a long and proud history of protecting the rights of LGBTQ+ communities, from winning the landmark case Lawrence v. Texas more than 20 years ago to fighting for bathroom access and gender-affirming care for trans people. This advocacy took many forms in 2023.
Youth Advocacy
The most vulnerable community—children and teens—deserves access to justice that our teams provide. In 2023, we united adoptive children with loving parents and challenged discriminatory treatment of foster youth. In all matters, we worked to ensure that the next generation has the best chance for success.

Reproductive Rights
Almost two years after the US Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, our lawyers and Post-Dobbs Task Force remain vocal advocates for protecting abortion rights. In 2023, we helped clients, from doctors to professors to organizations, navigate the legal landscape of reproductive rights.
Veterans’ Rights
In recent years, we’ve won a string of cases for veterans who received less-than-honorable discharges after suffering PTSD or sexual assault. Our advocacy secured another win for US Air Force veterans this year, plus we authored an amicus brief at the US Supreme Court for veterans’ education benefits.
Voting Rights
As the fundamental tenets of democracy are challenged, our lawyers strive to preserve and strengthen US democracy. At our core is a commitment to free elections, fair and equitable districting maps, and a government that truly reflects the will of the people. For decades, we have won landmark election law and redistricting cases in federal and state courts across the nation, including the US Supreme Court. Our lawyers have immense experience advising on and litigating significant redistricting cases.
Survivors’ Rights
In 2023, our lawyers counseled several organizations that help survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence. We also represented individuals in proceedings against their assailants. Providing free legal counsel and basic resources for survivors is just one of the ways that we work to restore a safe environment for our clients and their families, and to build a safer world for everyone.
